The Ab Meri Baari Project, implemented by Arpan Seva Sansthan with the support of the Royal Rajasthan Foundation, aims to achieve socio-economic empowerment of adolescents and young girls while mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on them. The project commenced in November 2022 and covers 12 villages in Phulera and Mozmabad Block of Jaipur District, Rajasthan.
The project successfully raised awareness among the community about COVID vaccination and appropriate behaviour, resulting in an increase in COVID vaccination coverage from 38% to 52% in the project area. Additionally, the project team supported the vaccination of 275 girls.
The project enhanced the understanding of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) on adolescent issues, enabling them to build better relations within the community, especially with girls.
The project facilitated increased access to social security schemes and services for the targeted group of girls.
Over 600 girls benefited from the project's activities, gaining knowledge about physical and psychological changes during adolescence, menstrual hygiene, gender, and leadership skills. Out of this group, 100 girl champions were identified and provided with skill development training, connecting them to employment opportunities. These champions developed self-confidence, decision-making abilities, and economic independence.
The project also improved the skills of Anganwadi workers to address adolescent issues, ensuring the sustainability of its impact.
In the span of a year, the Ab Meri Baari project has helped transform the lives of adolescents and young girls, fostering empowerment, awareness, and self-sufficiency among them.
